Enlacements d'intervalles et torsion de Whitehead

Soit $E$ un enlacement de $n$ intervalles dans $D^2\times I$ d’extérieur $X$ et soit $X_0=X\cap D^2\times 0$. On utilise la propriété de la paire $(X,X_0)$ d’être $\Lambda$-acyclique pour certaines représentation $\rho$ de l’anneau du groupe fondamental $\pi$ de $X$ dans un anneau $\Lambda$ pour construire des invariants de torsion à valeurs dans le groupe $K_1\left(\Lambda \right)/\rho (\pm \pi )$. Un cas particulier est le polynôme d’Alexander en $n$ variables quand $\Lambda$ est l’anneau des fractions rationnelles $P/Q$ avec $Q(1,1,\cdots ,1)=1$ et $\rho$ est simplement l’abélianisation.

Let $E$ be a $n$-component string link in $D^2\times I$ with exterior $X$ and $X_0=X\cap D^2\times 0$. Then the pair $(X,X_0)$ is $\mathbb{Z}$-acyclic and, given a representation $\rho :\mathbb{Z}\left[\pi \right]\to \Lambda$, with $\pi ={\pi }_1\left(X\right)$, we use the property that this pair is $\Lambda$-acyclic for various representations $\rho$ and rings $\Lambda$ to construct torsion invariants for string links taking their values in the group $K_1\left(\Lambda \right)/\rho (\pm \pi )$. A particular case is the Alexander polynomial in $n$ variables when $\Lambda$ is the ring of rational fractions $P/Q$ with $Q(1,1,\cdots ,1)=1$ and $\rho$ is simply the abelianization map.
