Séminaire Bourbaki : volume 2003/2004, exposés 924-937, Astérisque, no. 299 (2005), Exposé no. 934, pp. 249-265.

The study of the wave equation and its perturbations has shown the importance of geometric objects such as outgoing and incoming cones, Lorentz fields, adapted null frames, etc. Among nonlinear hyperbolic systems, Einstein equations play a central role; to study them on a curved background, one has to construct objects analogous to those of the flat case, cones, null frames, etc. These objects are constructed simultaneously with the solution, and this is the heart of the study of the Cauchy problem in general relativity, which is the subject of this conference.
