Familles résolvantes, générateurs, co-générateurs, potentiels
Annales de l'Institut Fourier, Tome 22 (1972) no. 1, pp. 89-210.

This is a study, on Banach spaces, of resolvent families (i.e. pseudo-resolvents) (R λ ) λ>0 and of the “generators” that can be associated to them when λ tends to zero or to infinity. When the family is a contraction family these “generators” satisfy abstract versions of the “maximum principles” used in Potential theory. The important notion introduced here is the notion of “codissipativity” (linked to the dissipativity introduced by G. Lumer and E.S. Phillips).

From this study, the fundamental Hunt-Lion theorem (which characterizes, through submarkovian resolvent families, the positive operators on a space 𝒞 0 , whose domains contain the space of functions with compact support, and that satisfy the complete maximum principle) is extended to the cases of non positivity and of partial positivity.

Then, in the framework of convolution, other principles are studied, that are weaker but more concrete than codissipativity.

Finally, some results are given on the Operational calculus of “abstracts potentials”.
